Douglas Reservoir was formed in 1942 to protect the area from floods and generate electricity. Today it is a very popular recreational area as well as top boating and fishing lake .It is number five for Crappie and number ten overall lake for large mouth Bass. Many tournaments take place on this beautiful lake that has a backdrop of the Great Smoky Mountains . There are 30,000 acres to enjoy on the lake ,sixteen public boat launches and 550 miles of shoreline. The lake averages 1.7 million visitors annually to its' shores. Since it is still a primary flood control lake ,it is at full-pool May-August and drops on average 40 feet during the winter. There are several boat rentals,campgrounds,and RV parks to enjoy scattered around the lake as well as picnic and fishing spots. There are two three types of Douglas Lake homes:lakefront (year-round water) ,seasonal lake-front (full pool May-August)and lake view homes on Douglas Lake.Depending on your desires and budget you can find amazing properties.
